The Community School of Music and Arts continues its 2013-2014 Community Concert Series with the presentation “Native American Music & Dance,” scheduled 2 p.m. Sunday at Tateuchi Hall, 230 San Antonio Circle, Mountain View.

Eddie Madril will headline the family-friendly event, demonstrating the rich dance traditions of the Native American Plains Indians and building awareness and appreciation for Native American culture past and present. The performance will include an introduction to popular and rare Native American music and dance, including grass dance, fancy dance and hoop dance.

Madril, a member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe of Southern Arizona and Northern Sonora, Mexico, is an active member of the Native American community and a representative of his culture through dance, song, teaching, drama and filmmaking. His work includes residencies in Bay Area schools, working with students and encouraging the development of appreciation and respect for American Indian dance, music, culture, history, art and sign language. He taught American Indian music at San Francisco State University and was a three-year recipient of the California Arts Council Artist-In-Residence grant.

“CSMA is excited to launch our Community Concert Series with a vibrant show highlighting Eddie Madril’s Native American heritage,” said Vickie Scott Grove, CSMA executive director. “As part of our mission to provide arts for all, we take great pride in delivering free concerts, exhibitions and events for families and our entire community.”

CSMA’s 2013-2014 Community Concert Series is supported by a grant from the Applied Materials Foundation. The media sponsor for the series is Classical KDFC radio.

Admission is free and open to the public.
