MARY PAULINE KENNEDY

OBIT MaryKennedy

Our dear Auntie Mary went home to the Lord on Sept. 10th after facing lung cancer with great faith and courage. She passed away just shy of her 88th birthday. Surrounded by loved ones, she left this world with a smile of joy on her face, finally reunited with her beloved husband Fran who passed away in 1984 after 38 years of devoted marriage.

Auntie Mary was born on Oct. 2, 1925 in Springfield, Mass., the eldest of nine children. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School and spent her teen and young adult years sacrificially caring for her siblings after her mother passed away. She met Fran, the love of her life, while still a teenager. They married in 1946 and moved to California in 1961. She made her career at the DMV where she served the public with both humor and sass. She loved God and His Word and was a member of Bible Study Fellowship for 20 years. Her deep faith was her anchor through life’s many challenges. She was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed a long anticipated trip with Fran to Ireland. Auntie Mary’s contagious laughter, devotion to family and friends, and love for each of her dogs endeared others to her. She was deeply loved. Auntie Mary is survived by her beloved brother Bart Dowd of Massachusetts and her cherished sister and friend Rosemarie of New Hampshire. She also leaves behind her 13 devoted nieces and nephews and numerous adored great nieces and great nephews to whom she was a wonderful aunt and in whom she took special delight. She will be deeply missed by her dearest friends, Eleanor and Dan Cullen, and her many treasured friends at BSF and those in Villa Teresa Mobilehome Community, her home for 33 years. A Memorial Mass celebrating Auntie Mary’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sat, Oct. 19th at Holy Spirit Parish in San Jose where she was a communicant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Auntie Mary’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital www.stjude.org.
