Temple named boys lacrosse coach at St. Francis

For the second time in three months, St. Francis High has hired a head coach for its varsity boys lacrosse team.

School officials last month announced that Noah Temple will run the program instead of Will Callegari, who in June was hired to replace Greg Derus, the team’s coach the past two springs. Callegari, an assistant coach at Florida State last season, “decided not to move out west and take our offer this summer,” St. Francis athletic director Michael Pilawski said Sept. 18.

Temple has served on the St. Francis coaching staff since the program started, first as the junior-varsity assistant coach and the past two years as the varsity assistant.

“We are extremely excited to have Noah Temple as our new head boys lacrosse coach,” Pilawski said. “Noah knows our school and program very well and is passionate about continuing the growth and commitment to excellence our school stands for.”

A three-year starter at Trinity Pawling High School in Pawling, N.Y., Temple played club lacrosse at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Named First Team All-West Coast Lacrosse League in college, he helped the Mustangs reach the championship game.

“I am very excited to get back on the field with our exceptional group of student-athletes and continue the brand of St. Francis High School lacrosse that we have worked hard to create,” Temple said.

Temple will oversee the entire boys lacrosse program, including the junior-varsity team, according to Pilawski.

Derus, who returned to the Midwest, guided the Lancers to a 12-7 overall record and a third-place finish in the West Catholic Athletic League last spring.

“St. Francis High School would like to thank Coach Derus for all of his dedication and hard work for the past two years with our boys lacrosse program,” Pilawski said. “He has worked tirelessly to lay the foundation for a very solid program.”
