Loyola School third-grader Alex Albin of Los Altos won the Northern California wakeboard championship for his age division (8 and under) last month. He will represent the region at the national championships, scheduled Oct. 10-12 in Bakersfield.

Tennis volunteers sought in Mtn. View

The Mountain View Police Activities League and the Mountain View Recreation Division seek high school volunteers for their NetGain Tennis Program for at-risk middle-school students. The program is scheduled to run 3-5:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays Oct. 28 through Dec. 11 at Rengstorff Park and Crittenden Middle School. Previous tennis experience is not necessary, but volunteers must undergo a background check and provide proof of a recent TB test. Polo event benefits BA Lyme Foundation

The Bay Area Lyme Foundation has scheduled its second Polo for Lyme Benefit noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Menlo Circus Club in Atherton. The event will feature polo, champagne, a gourmet luncheon, auctions, fine wines and live music. Participating polo players include Peter Milner of Los Altos and Jeff Graham of Los Altos Hills. Tickets start at $75; all proceeds support the foundation’s research and educational programs, according to organizers. The foundation was launched last year by a group of Portola Valley friends who noticed that Lyme disease had affected an alarming number of their community.
