MILLICENT (MILLY) BISHOP

OBIT MillicentBishop

In family sadness, we must announce the loss of our Milly on September 1, 2013. Her life ended one week after reaching her goal of being a part of grand-daughter Brooke and Steve Boak's wedding celebration at Lake Tahoe.

Cancer was held back for three years, allowing her family to enjoy her most completely.  We will keep the memories of her art, love, home, photography, garden, children and grandchildren as our family focuses on the future.

She was born to Robert and Mildred Baker in 1930 in Renton, Washington and attended schools in the Seattle area. She developed artistic skills early and attended Garfield High where she was the Girl's President. Later she graduated from the University of Washington in art and education. Her sister, Barbara (Baker) Zimmerman, lives in Seattle. Milly married Roger Bishop in 1952, after which they moved to California where she continued her teaching career while Roger practiced dentistry in the U.S. Coast Guard. They moved to Los Altos in 1955 where he entered private practice and they began raising their three children. She continued her professional art interests as president of the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society and member of the honorary Society of Western Artists. She was active teaching art, studying at art workshops, and traveling where she sketched extensively. She enjoyed a photographic greeting card business, selling at several local locations. A member of the Los Altos Garden Club, she found great pleasure developing her garden.

As mother of three (Brad [& Kim O'Brien], Cary [& Irene Economy], and Paige) and later grandmother of eight ([Brooke, Brian & Scott], [Kevin, Ryan, & Kelly], and [Ross & Ellie]), Milly requested no flowers, funeral, or memorials; preferring charities such as Pets in Need or a cancer foundation of your choice.

With immense thanks for support by family, friends, and medical staffs, we send love to all, Roger, Brad, Cary and Paige.
