Two-alarm fire ravages Mtn. View homes

A two-alarm fire engulfed one home and damaged another on Orangetree Lane in Mountain View Saturday night.

According to Mountain View Police, 911 dispatchers received several calls regarding a house fire at approximately 7:49 p.m. Upon arrival, Santa Clara County Fire Department responders found the single-family home engulfed in flames – with the fire spreading to a neighboring home.

After evacuating residents and evaluating the blaze, fire officials called a second alarm at approximately 7:57 p.m. A gas meter with an active leak caught fire during the incident, police reported. On-scene firefighters gained control and extinguished the blaze at 9 p.m. PG&E later secured and capped the leaking gas line.

Police described damage to the homes as “extensive.”

No one was injured as a result of the fire, which rendered the properties uninhabitable, police added. The incident remains under investigation by county fire officials.
