Ventana School expands board

Ventana School in Los Altos recently added three new members to its now 11-member board of trustees.

Ventana School serves preschool through fourth-grade students on its 7-acre campus at 1040 Border Road, a site shared with Christ Episcopal Church. The school opened in 2005 as a preschool and has added a new class every year since. This year’s enrollment tops 140 students.

Reflecting the growth in students and facilities, the school’s board expanded, adding new trustees David Sobota, Charles Munch and Katherine Pawlick.

Sobota, a Ventana parent, is director of corporate development at Google Inc. and a senior member of the corporate development team, responsible for the company’s worldwide acquisitions and strategic investments.

Munch has a background in finance and program management. He is chairman of Meriwest Credit Union, a billion-dollar-plus financial organization established to serve IBM employees in the Bay Area.

Pawlick, a parent of two Ventana preschool graduates, has more than 14 years of experience in the mortgage lending industry. She served as a member of the vestry at Christ Episcopal and on the school’s steering committee as it was founded and organized.

“In combination, David, Charles and Katherine bring to the board important business and educational skills and, as two are either current or former parents of Ventana students, they understand the needs of Ventana’s students and teachers,” said Robert Armistead, board chairman.

Armistead said that because Ventana has a major facility expansion underway, along with an associated capital campaign, the knowledge and experience the new trustees bring will be “very important in continuing Ventana’s growth and success.”
