Author Thomas J. Mickey is scheduled to discuss his book on English gardens 7 p.m. today at the Los Altos main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.

Mickey’s book, “America’s Romance with the English Garden” (Ohio University Press, 2013), chronicles how the seed and publishing industries collaborated to encourage English garden designs through marketing efforts and color printed catalogs.

Mickey is professor emeritus at Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts. He attended Boston University, the University of Iowa and the Landscape Institute at Boston Architectural College.

CSA honors Hometown Heroes

The Community Services Agency has scheduled its annual Hometown Heroes Recognition Breakfast 7:15-9 a.m. Sept. 13 at the Microsoft Silicon Valley Campus, Building 1, 1065 La Avenida St., Mountain View.

Hometown Heroes recognizes local residents and businesses that have had a positive impact on the community.

This year the event will honor community volunteers Jean and Barbara Mordo and past and present Mountain View City Councils.

Santa Clara Corvettes hosts car show

Santa Clara Corvettes has scheduled its 37th Annual Corvette Spectacular Car Show Sept. 22 on Main Street in Los Altos. Registration will open at 8 a.m., followed by judging at 11 a.m. and awards at 3:30 p.m.

The show will feature approximately 165 new, classic and racing Corvettes lining both sides of Main Street.

Admission is free.
