Guido wins twice on golf course at chamber tourney

The winning foursome at the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament included, from left, Martin Nguyen, Kurtis Ferchau, Mike Guido and Joerg Ferchau.

Last week’s 24th annual Los Altos Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament proved to be a win-win event for Mike Guido. He was part of the winning foursome and also placed first in the longest-drive contest.

Guido, Joerg Ferchau, Kurtis Ferchau and Martin Nguyen combined to post the best score in the scramble-format tournament, held Aug. 5 at Los Altos Golf & Country Club. PricewaterhouseCoopers and Efficient Drivetrains Inc. sponsored the foursome.

A foursome sponsored by Zoom Imaging – Chris Clark, Joe Power, Kevin Jarvis and Matt Castaneda – finished second.

Later, Guido and Jaclyn Campi each took home a prize for hitting the longest drive among the men and women, respectively.

Susanna Pau and Cary Liu placed first in the two-person best-ball category. Ruth Chu and Larry Chu came in second.

Ron Carrie won the closest-to-the-pin contest, while Ken Haukom took home the prize for the most accurate drive.

Sandy Wihtol and Ray Skitt putted unsuccessfully for the $5,000 putting contest prizes.

Courtyard by Marriott Palo Alto-Los Altos was title sponsor of the event. Silver Sponsors included: Armadillo Willy’s BBQ; Campi Properties Inc.; Casas Riley & Simonian LLP; Chef Chu’s; EverBank; Intero Real Estate Services; Los Altos Optometric Group; May Construction Inc.; Mission Trail Waste Systems Inc.; Rees Properties Inc.; Residence Inn by Marriott Palo Alto-Los Altos; Sereno Group Real Estate; and Torrey Pines Bank. Le Boulanger donated boxed lunches and Whole Foods Market and Gordon Biersch Brewery supplied refreshments on the golf course.

“We are pleased with the generous support we get from the business community for this annual fundraiser,” tournament chairman Brian Whitlock said.

Two hole-in-one prizes went unclaimed – a Mercedes-Benz sponsored by HammerAuto.com and a Baume & Mercier timepiece sponsored by Gleim Jewelers. State Farm Insurance/Jim Flynn and Al Ward sponsored the putting and longest-drive contests, while Adobe Animal Hospital was the cart sponsor.

Last week’s event included a barbecue buffet, followed by an award presentation, silent auction and several prize drawings.

Tournament proceeds support the chamber’s primary core functions of encouraging a strong local economy and promoting the communities of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills.
