Immigrant House social scheduled Sunday

Friends of Immigrant House has scheduled an ice cream social noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at Mercy-Bush Park on the corner of Mercy and Bush streets in Mountain View.

The event is designed to promote the effort to preserve Immigrant House, a circa-1880s structure that housed immigrant families in the city’s early days.

“We are focusing on the humble origins of Old Mountain View via the historical 1880s-era Immigrant House, home of laborers who built the city and farmhands who worked in the orchards,” said Mary Kay Marinovich, a descendant of immigrants.

Activities will include live entertainment, raffles, prizes, games and the unveiling of a “Save Immigrant House” song with Mountain View High School student Cindy Ho playing on violin.

Marinovich led efforts to preserve the 400-square-foot house, which faced demolition earlier this year to make way for a new Bryant Street office building. She raised funds to move the house to a temporary location. Mountain View city councilmembers have since approved relocating the structure to a city-purchased property on Rengstorff Avenue.
