Nagaraj notches honors
As a finalist for a CIF/Farmers Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, Los Altos Hills resident Eela Nagaraj recently received $2,000. Nagaraj, who graduated from St. Francis High in May, was one of two winners from the Central Coast Section. A boy and girl from each section in the California Interscholastic Federation earned scholarship money for contending for the awards, won by Isabella Bosetti (Justin-Siena High in Napa) and Brandon Miller (La Costa Canyon High in Carlsbad). Established in 1982, the awards identify seniors who excel in the classroom and in athletics, and are strong contributors to their schools and communities. Nagaraj was the captain of the St. Francis girls water polo team, which claimed the CCS title last fall. A National Merit Scholarship winner, she volunteered at Kids Read, Westwind Therapeutic Horseback Riding and Pinehill Residential Care Center. Nagaraj is headed to Harvard University, where she plans to play water polo.
