Expect plumes of smoke near Page Mill Road, Arastradero Road and Interstate 280 Thursday (May 30) – officials are planning a series of prescribed burns at the Enid W. Person Arastradero Preserve.
The Palo Alto Fire Department, Santa Clara County fire departments and CalFire will be on location for an interagency effort to clear excess brush from the preserve between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
If unfavorable weather conditions or an emergency situation arises, the prescribed burn may be cancelled.
According to the Palo Alto Fire Department, the prescribed burn is important for preventing wildland fires such as the 1985 blaze at Liddicoat Lane and Arastradero Road that destroyed nine homes and caused millions of dollars in damage.
