KATHERINE WRIGHT PICKERT

Katherine Wright Pickert passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at home, surrounded by close family.

Born December 9, 1924 in Belvidere, Illinois, to Omar Burton Wright and Helen Cronin, Katy studied Psychology at DePauw University in Indiana. While there, she was an active part of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority on campus. After graduating in 1946, Katy worked in Chicago and then enrolled in George Washington University in Washington DC to pursue a Master’s Degree in Psychology.

While in Washington, Katy met many life-long friends and her husband, Paul Pickert. After marrying in 1953, the newlyweds moved to Paul’s hometown of Batavia, New York. In 1957, they moved to California, first to San Mateo before settling in Los Altos in 1960 where they raised their family, becoming an integral part of the community.

Katy and Paul’s son Greg, was born in 1958, and their daughter, Mary in 1962. While busy supporting her husband and raising their two children, Katy developed many passions in life. She was an avid bridge player, loved attending the symphony in San Francisco with her husband and friends, chipped away at golf, enjoyed shopping for antiques, was always keeping abreast of politics and loved traveling.

Katy and Paul took their first trip to Europe in 1972 and had several memorable overseas trips over the years, including a canal boat trip in Russia, taking a cruise ship through the Panama Canal, visiting historical sites in Greece and seeing the tulips in Belgium and the Netherlands. During these trips, she and Paul developed many new friendships with other travelers. Katy also enjoyed trips within the U.S., visiting family or traveling with some of her life-long friends.

She is survived by her husband Paul, brother Burt Wright, daughter Mary Pickert, daughter-in-law Beth Price and four grandsons, Alex, Ryan, Sean and Ian Pickert. She was preceded in death by her son Greg.

A memorial mass was held Saturday, June 22nd at St. Nicholas Church in Los Altos.
