Fifth-graders at St. Nicholas Catholic School in Los Altos Hills participated in a mock congressional hearing last month, with students preparing speeches as if they were making presentations to Congress.
Topics included the founding of the U.S., the Constitution, the branches of government, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens. After the speeches, a panel of judges asked the students questions on their topics and offered them feedback.
Panel judges included Judge Socrates Peter Manoukian of the Santa Clara County Superior Court, former Judge Jack Komar (retired) of the Santa Clara County Superior Court and Ray Strimaitis, patent lawyer, vice president and general counsel for Yahoo Inc.
