Police Blotter

Police arrest man on multiple charges

Police arrested a 47-year-old intoxicated man June 9 after he initially threatened to harm himself.

After a report that a man had threatened to commit suicide, responding officers made contact with him in front of his mother’s home on Stevens Place. Police later discovered that the man had forcibly entered his mother’s home while she was away on vacation, in violation of a restraining order she had against him.

The man was arrested on charges that included burglary, public intoxication and violating a restraining order. He was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail.

Commercial burglary

June 5, 9:09 a.m., 300 block of Pine Lane: An unknown suspect entered a building on a construction site, cut the lock on a storage box and stole $5,000 worth of tools.

Felony warrant arrest

June 5, 4:46 p.m., Del Medio Avenue and El Camino Real: Police executing a stop for a traffic violation arrested a man on four outstanding warrants out of Santa Clara County, including a felony weapons violation. The remaining warrants were misdemeanors, according to police. The motorist was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.

Los Altos Police now on Twitter

Information from the Los Altos Police Department can now be found on Twitter.

According to Los Altos Police Chief Tuck Younis, the agency began actively using its Twitter feed (@LosAltosPD) in May, ahead of the annual Kiwanis Pet Parade downtown. Younis said the social media tool will boost the department’s ability to distribute information such as road closures, suspect sketches and incident reports, as well as other police activities in the city.

“The idea is to get information to our residents as quickly as possible,” he said.

Younis also credited the department’s neighboring police agencies in Mountain View and Palo Alto – also active on social media – for providing a solid framework in using Twitter as a law enforcement tool.
