Bertron elevated to head coach of wrestling team

St. Francis High has promoted Mark Bertron to head coach of the varsity wrestling team. School officials made the announcement May 24.

Bertron last season served as assistant coach to Matt Danna, who stepped down in April after eight years at the helm.

“We are very excited to have Mark Bertron as the new head wrestling coach here at St. Francis High School,” said Michael Pilawski, director of athletics. “Mark brings great passion and knowledge for the sport of wrestling as well as a love of our school and the kids in the program. We are confident Mark will continue to build on the strong traditions of our school and department.”

A graduate of Oak Grove High (2006) – where he twice qualified for the state wrestling meet – and San Francisco State (2010), Bertron is a teacher at Stratford School in Fremont. Before coming to St. Francis, he coached wrestling at Cupertino High and Bellarmine College Prep.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to continue the success of the St. Francis wrestling program,” Bertron said. “I am honored to be able to coach and educate the amazing student-athletes that are at our school.”

Bertron will oversee the entire wrestling program, which includes varsity, junior-varsity and freshman teams.
