LAH Horsemen salute winners of art, essay contest

Winners of the Los Altos Hills Horsemen’s Association’s art and essay contest receive awards at last week’s city council meeting.

Hoofbeats, horsemanship and the beauty of equine friends inspired the winners of the Los Altos Hills Horsemen’s Association’s student art and essay contest.

According to association member Jolon Wagner, more than 23 youth, 5-14, submitted entries on this year’s theme, “Why I Love Horses in the Hills.”

Los Altos Hills Mayor Gary Waldeck and councilmembers honored the winners at their May 20 meeting. Winners received gift cards, certificates of recognition, pony rides and gift bags.

The winners and categories:

Ages 6-8:  Most Outstanding Work of Art: Frederick Yip, 6; Most Outstanding Essay: Maizie Fagan, 7.

Ages 9-12: Most Outstanding Work of Art: Kensey Kendrick, 12; Most Outstanding Essay: Anika Mani, 9.

Ages 13-17: Most Outstanding Work of Art: Emily Li, 14; Most Outstanding Essay: Shana de Urioste, 13.

Honorable mentions for artwork: Chloe Akis, Maizie Fagan, Charlotte Roussel, Isabella Hu, Nina Jensen, Caitlyn Rock, Laura Sun, Kimberly Fong, Julia Ristow, Kevin Ma, Avania Costello, Nika Lee and Lillian Yu.

Honorable mentions for essays: Caitlyn Rock, Serena Pugh and Bill Cheng.
