Foothill fundraiser features gem sale

The Foothill Commission has scheduled the “Foothill Is a Gem Fundraiser” 4-6 p.m. Friday in the Campus Center Dining Room at Foothill College, 12345 S. El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills.

Jewelry showcased at the event includes earrings, hair combs, mixed-media amulets and necklaces.

Many of the featured pieces are from the collection of Foothill College President Judy C. Miner, who owns a gallery of couture costume items from the New York-based Lunch at The Ritz and San Francisco-based artist Masha Archer. Miner will be on hand at 5 p.m. to share the stories behind some of the key pieces from her extensive collection.

All artisans donate a percentage of their sales to Foothill’s nonprofit Stretch to Kindergarten program and Family Engagement Institute (FEI). FEI provides educational opportunities for underserved families with children. Stretch to Kindergarten is a tuition-free, parent-participation readiness program that offers low-income children support to transition into kindergarten.

A $20 tax-deductible donation is requested. Parking for the event is free. Lots 1 and 2-A provide access to the Campus Center.

The all-volunteer Foothill Commission supports the students, programs and services at the college. Local residents are invited to join the commission, which operates under the auspices of the Foothill-De Anza Foundation.
