The Los Altos Educational Foundation reported that it met its fundraising commitment to the Los Altos School District for the 2012-2013 school year. Thousands of parents and local residents donated $3 million to fund the largest grant in the foundation’s 30-year history.
The $3 million makes possible the programs delivered during the school year at all nine schools in the district.
During the Junior Olympics April 27, the foundation presented two checks to the district. The first, for $2.54 million, covers the Foundation Baseline Grant, which enables smaller class sizes and enrichment programs like science, art, music and physical education for children in grades K-8. The second, for $460,000, represents the Foundation Innovation Grant, targeted to support teachers who bring innovative instructional strategies to the classroom learning environment.
The Los Altos Educational Foundation’s board comprises three volunteer members from each of the nine district schools. The board is working with district staff and school principals to design the 2013-2014 grant.
