Lauck headlines list of locals playing in all-star football game

St. Francis High quarterback Mike Lauck is slated to play in tonight’s Charlie Wedemeyer High School All-Star Football Game.

Recent graduates of Mountain View, St. Francis and Homestead highs have committed to play in the 39th annual Charlie Wedemeyer High School All-Star Football Game, scheduled 7:30 p.m. today at San Jose City College.

Also known as the Silicon Valley Youth Classic, the contest showcases Santa Clara County’s top high school players from the Class of 2013.

Local participants include defensive back Joe Flores and linebacker Chad Schaumburg of Mountain View, quarterback Mike Lauck of St. Francis and Homestead defensive back Mark Hirschbeck, a Los Altos resident.

Lauck led St. Francis to the Central Coast Section Division II championship last November and was named to the West Catholic Athletic League First Team. He has agreed to play for the University of La Verne, an NCAA Division III school in Southern California.

Flores and Schaumburg, both selected to the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division First Team last fall, plan to play at Foothill College. Schaumburg was voted Mountain View’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Hirschbeck, chosen SCVAL De Anza Division First Team utility player and team MVP, intends to play for De Anza College.

The four locals will play on the North in a game against the South that honors the late Charlie Wedemeyer, the longtime Los Gatos football coach who suffered from ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Game tickets are $15.
