FHDA oversight committee offers spending update

The Measure C Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee, which oversees Foothill-De Anza Community College District bond funds, has released its annual report, stating that bond funds were spent as promised.

The report, available online at www.measurec.fhda.edu/AR1112, details how the district spent taxpayer-supported bond funds over the past year. The document includes pictures and highlights of projects funded by Measure C, a $490.8 million general-obligation bond that district voters approved in 2006.

In presenting the report, committee Chairman Dudley G. Andersen told the Foothill-De Anza Board of Trustees that after reviewing all bond-related documents and activities over the past year, the oversight committee has determined that the bond proceeds were spent as promised. He said the district’s annual Measure C financial and performance audits found the district in full compliance and called Measure C “a boon to this district.”

Completed projects funded by Measure C range from classroom renovations and upgraded infrastructure for utilities and technology to roof repairs and installation of photovoltaic arrays for electricity generation. The Physical Sciences and Engineering Center at Foothill and the Media and Learning Center at De Anza are new buildings.

The Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee meets six times a year to review the use of Measure C funds and monitor progress. The committee comprises community representatives appointed by the district’s board of trustees.

Members of the oversight committee include Andersen; David Berman, William A. Dietz and Anita Manwani Bhagat of Los Altos; Stephanie A. McGee; Robert K. Lancefield; and Susan Silver.
