Avenidas hosts series for family caregivers

Avenidas Rose Kleiner Center has scheduled a “‘How To’ Series for Family Caregivers” session on palliative care 6:30-8 p.m. Dec. 4 at the center, 270 Escuela Ave., Mountain View.

The nonprofit Avenidas offers a day health center for less independent and frail adults as well as an aging-in-place membership program that allows seniors to stay in their homes as they age.

Admission is free. Free onsite care of attendees’ aging loved ones is available with 48-hour notice. Light refreshments will be served.

Senior Commission compiles resource binder

The Los Altos and Los Altos Hills Senior Commission has compiled a Resource Information Binder for seniors, their children and their caregivers.

Binders have six categories: Transportation, Education, Food and Meal Programs, Health Services, Housing and Social Participation.

Binders are available at the Los Altos Senior Center Travel Desk, 97 Hillview Ave.; Los Altos City Hall, 1 N. San Antonio Road; the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce, 321 University Ave.; the Los Altos main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road; the Woodland Branch library, 1975 Grant Road; and Los Altos Hills Town Hall, 26379 W. Fremont Road.

Avenidas, LAH team up for classes

Avenidas and the Los Altos Hills Parks and Recreation Committee have scheduled an array of courses and clubs designed specifically to enhance seniors’ physical and mental health.

Offerings include Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates, Stepping Strong (walking), a free Health Education Seminar, Life Stories (writing), a Current Events Discussion Group and a Bridge Club.

Discounts are available for senior courses.
