Henning to address Federated Woman's Club

The Federated Woman's Club of Los Altos has scheduled Richard Henning, founder of the Foothill College Celebrity Forum series, as guest speaker at its Oct. 3 meeting at Michaels at Shoreline restaurant, 2960 N. Shoreline Blvd., Mountain View.

Discovery Shop sponsors art sale

California Baron's Ball comes to Fremont Hills

Grand View League, a fundraising branch of the American Cancer Society, has scheduled the 12th annual California Baron's Ball 6-11 p.m. Saturday at the Fremont Hills Country Club, 12889 Viscaino Place, Los Altos Hills.

Formerly known as the Cattle Baron's Ball, the event has raised nearly $10 million over the past 11 years for cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services. 25 years of Community Volunteer Service Awards

The 25th Los Altos-Los Altos Hills Community Volunteer Service Awards luncheon is scheduled Dec. 7 at the Los Altos Youth Center.

Nomination packets have been mailed to a number of local volunteer-driven organizations. A total of 111 non-profit groups that serve the community through service clubs, social agencies, churches, schools and health support may submit candidates for the awards. Nominations are due Oct. 29.

A joint committee comprising five members from Los Altos and five from Los Altos Hills selects award recipients based on nominations submitted by various agencies that engage volunteers in their services.

Winners of the awards have been active as volunteers in multiple organizations over a period of time.
