The Los Altos City Council last week to proceed with the First Street streetscape project which would mean closure of part of the street and the intersection of Main Street and First through the summer and until as late as mid-November.
Several downtown merchants said construction at the four intersections was negatively impacting their businesses and appealed to councilmembers to postpone more construction until after the holidays.
Councilmembers awarded an approximately $1.5 million bid to Robert A. Bothman to begin construction soon after the Los Altos Art & Wine Festival next month. Councilwomen Megan Satterlee and Val Carpenter cast the dissenting votes.
