The Alzheimer’s Association has scheduled its 2011 Memories in the Making Art Auction 6-9:30 p.m. Friday at the Computer History Museum, 1401 N. Shoreline Blvd., Mountain View.
Memories in the Making is a therapeutic art program managed by the Alzheimer’s Association to encourage those with Alzheimer’s and related dementias to communicate through painting.
The paintings, sketches and drawings – available for purchase at the auction – are highly expressive, often showing tangible evidence of what remains of the individual’s personality, even in the latter stages of the debilitating illness.
The association hosted the first Memories in the Making Art Auction in 2003, raising $20,000. Since then, the event has grown, generating $111,000 in 2010 and featuring wine, entertainment packages, jewelry and more.
Tickets are $125, $1,000 for a table of 10. Proceeds support the Alzheimer’s Association of Northern California.
