George and Lorraine Pantages may be the longest-running Town Crier subscribers. Lorraine remembers reading the paper since approximately 1950. The Town Crier began publishing in 1947.
“I remember always getting it,” said Lorraine, 87, who has been married to George, 91, for 64 years. They moved from Los Altos to Las Vegas more than a decade ago but continue to subscribe.
The couple lived on Cherry Avenue, where “there were a lot of orchards,” George recalled of the early days.
“We had 22 trees on our own property,” he said.
Lorraine has fond memories of running through orchards on her way to Los Altos Grammar School.
“They had great teachers in those days,” she said.
