In 1961, Bob and Nancy Murie and their four daughters camped in National Parks for more than a month as they traveled from their home in Ithaca, N.Y., to Los Altos Hills. After arriving here, they purchased a lot, designed a house, had it constructed and have lived there ever since.
In August, the Muries both celebrated their 80th birthdays. In November, the couple is scheduled to fete their 60th wedding anniversary with their large family at their home at Donner Lake. The family includes four married daughters, 11 grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Nancy was a stay-at-home mom, active collecting antiques, gardening and playing tennis. She is a member of the Los Altos Hills Tennis Club and The Garden Club of Los Altos.
Bob, an honors graduate in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech, has been active in engineering, management and investments in Silicon Valley. He retired as vice president and general manager of Ford Aerospace at 50. The Government of Ireland hired the retired engineer, now involved in Venture Capital, to conduct entrepreneurial programs. Bob assisted his sons-in-law in their businesses.
The Muries attend Peninsula Bible Church.
