A 48-year-old cyclist reported last week that a car grazed his left calf as he was riding westbound on University Avenue near El Monte Road.
Although the cyclist did not report any injuries, Los Altos police have classified the incident as a hit-and-run.
Police said they have the license plate number of the driver and are conducting an investigation, but the cyclist – traveling on the 700 block of University Ave. – didn't have a bike lane to ride in.
"If there's no bike lane, they're entitled to the whole lane," police captain Andy Galea said. "Bikes have to obey laws just like cars. ... Anybody passing a cyclist in that lane has to be very cautious."
