Orientations kick off academic year at Foothill

Before fall quarter classes begin Sept. 21, Foothill College has scheduled orientation sessions for new students and their parents. Admission to both events is free and open to the public. New student orientation is scheduled 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 16 in the Smithwick Theatre. Parent orientation is scheduled 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 16 in Room 1501.

The new-student orientation gives first-time freshmen an opportunity to meet fellow students as well as Foothill faculty and staff and tour campus facilities. The orientation features live entertainment, an information fair, complimentary lunch and free parking in Lots 1 and 5. For more student orientation information, call 949-7282.

The parent orientation includes strategies on how to help their college students succeed, a list of student rights and responsibilities and information on Foothill programs, support services and financial aid and scholarships. Parking is free in Lot 1. For more information, call 949-7511.

Foothill College opens fall registration

New and former students can register for the Fall Quarter at Foothill College online or by phone through Sept. 20. Register early for best course selection.

California residents pay $17 per unit for classes. A full range of student support services is available, including financial aid, academic counseling and tutoring.

Students can apply for admission, register for classes, review class schedules, pay enrollment fees and purchase textbooks and parking permits online at www.foothill.edu. To register by phone, call 917-0509 or (408) 777-9394.

Fall classes begin Sept. 21 and run through Dec. 11, unless otherwise noted in the class schedule, posted at www.foothill.edu/schedule/index.php.

The main campus in Los Altos Hills is located at 12345 S. El Monte Road. The Middlefield Campus is located in the Cubberley Community Cener, 4000 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto.

Each 12-week quarter, Foothill offers more than 1,000 course sections to more than 18,000 day, evening and online students. Foothill's student population is ethnically diverse, culturally rich and includes students from many countries. In keeping with its philosophy of educational opportunity for all, the college offers university transfer, career training and basic skills instruction.
