Johnson recognized

Los Altos High graduate Erik Johnson ranks as the sixth-best prospect in the 2009 Northwoods League, according to Baseball America. Johnson, a sophomore at Cal-Berkeley, pitched for the league’s Alexandria Beetles (Minnesota) over the summer. The righty started 10 games, posting a 4-2 record with a 2.61 ERA and 49 strikeouts.

Bike-safety seminar

Colin Heyne's free presentation, "Sharing the Road: Safety Tips for Cyclists and Motorists," is scheduled 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at REI, 2450 Charleston Road, Mountain View. Hills golf tourney

The inaugural Los Altos Hills Parks & Recreation Golf Tournament is scheduled Monday at the Palo Alto Hills Golf & Country Club. A foursome-scramble format, the event will have a shotgun-start.
