Several generations of past and present volunteers for El Camino Hospital’s Auxiliary were on hand at the board of directors meeting June 11 to accept a resolution honoring 50 years of volunteer service.
From June 1958 to June 2008, volunteers have dedicated more than 4.6 million hours of service as the hospital’s greeters, patient liaisons, drivers, escorts, gift-shop cashiers, sewers and knitters.
"As we look forward to our new hospital and more decades of service to the community, we can’t imagine a future without you," said board Chairman Dave Reeder who presented the resolution.
The board also honored Alan Chausow, M.D., for his one-year service as El Camino’s chief of medical staff and "his unwavering commitment to doing the right thing for his colleagues, for the hospital, for his patients and the community" while maintaining his responsibilities as director of critical care, Reeder said.
Michael Podlone, a doctor of internal medicine, will assume the position of chief of staff Tuesday for fiscal year 2008-2009.
