Ride registration

Registration for the Sequoia Century Bicycle Ride – set for June 2 at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills – is under way. Organized by the Western Wheelers Bicycle Club, the ride offers three routes through the mountains to the coast and back (100 and 200 kilometers and 100 miles) and another through Saratoga, Los Altos Hills and Portola Valley (50 miles). Registration is $60 through May 19 and $75 after that. To register, visit www.westernwheelers.org/sequoia.

Pole presentation

REI in Mountain View is scheduled to host a free presentation, “Poles for Hiking and Outdoor Exercise,” 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday. Jayah Faye Paley, creator of the award-winning DVD “Poles for Hiking, Trekking & Walking,” will demonstrate how using poles engages the entire body while hiking or walking. Spring hoops camp

Spartan Sports Camp’s Spring Break Basketball Camp is scheduled 9 a.m. to noon April 8-12 at Mountain View High. It is open to boys and girls in grades 4-8. Led by Mountain View coaches and alumni, the camp will focus on shooting, ball handling and defense. Cost is $195. Baseball tryouts

The Mavericks – Los Altos-Mountain View PONY Baseball’s 8-and-under club team – have scheduled tryouts 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Cooper Park in Mountain View. The season runs March through May. Players must preregister to try out. For more information, visit www.lamvpb.org.
