The Los Altos School District’s Enrollment Growth Task Force is scheduled to seek input from the public about its work next month.

During his monthly progress report to the Los Altos City Council last week, Duncan MacVicar, the city of Los Altos’ representative on the task force, said the group is slated to host a community input meeting April 2 to present its work to resolve the enrollment challenges the Los Altos School District faces. A time and place for the meeting, he added, have yet to be finalized.

The 12-member task force – convened by district Superintendent Jeff Baier – has been meeting since December and includes district officials; representatives of Bullis Charter School and the cities of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and Mountain View; and members of the Los Altos and Mountain View chambers of commerce.

MacVicar said the task force plans to present “the things that we have learned” to those in attendance, while also previewing the group’s list of data-driven conclusions and a preliminary set of recommendations to help the district address current and future enrollment growth challenges.

“We’ve spent months going through lots of data and talking about things among ourselves, so it’ll take a little bit of work to explain that to the group of people who show up,” said MacVicar, who added that the task force is in the midst of developing an initial list of suggestions.

MacVicar noted that task force members would seek feedback from residents at the meeting before compiling a final report, which Baier will present to the district’s board of trustees sometime in May.
