San Juan dancer wins competition

San Juan Dance student Sarah Martinez, a fifth-grader at Almond School, was crowned 2013 Junior Miss Dance of California at the Dance Masters of California Inc. Solo Title Scholarship Competition March 2.

Dance team director Jordan Micek prepared Sarah for the competition, which included a judges’ interview; evaluations in ballet, tap, jazz and Acro; and a solo talent performance.

Suzanne San Juan, Sarah’s ballet teacher and the Los Altos studio’s owner, had coached Sarah’s cousin, Ashley, to success as Petite Miss Dance in 1998.

Sarah has studied at San Juan Dance since she was 3 years old. She is a member of the San Juan Sensations Dance Team and performs at local and national competitions as well as community events.
