Several dozen artists filled the Los Altos Hills Town Hall council chambers with easels, canvasses and palettes to document live models and still-life displays March 1.
The “Figurative Paint-Out” invited residents to join the painters for a mid-morning talk and art walk by artist Nina Bricker, who is exhibiting her paintings at town hall through Friday.
“This is a new idea,” said Los Altos Hills town curator Karen Druker. “We want to keep art in the public eye.”
Paintings by retired Los Altos Hills engineer and entrepreneur Ry Smith are scheduled for exhibition later this month through Aug. 28.
Smith’s “By Design” display will feature a selection of paintings in his signature industrial style. The retrospective will include 40 paintings, photos and giclée prints illustrating a variety of subjects ranging from landscapes to still lifes.
Smith attributes his graphic sensibility and use of color and shape to his training as an engineer.
“The design aspect of engineering and being an entrepreneur was an influence on my art,” he said. “I can remember many a late night trying to make my designs simpler.”
An opening reception is slated 2-5 p.m. March 31 at Los Altos Hills Town Hall, 26379 W. Fremont Road.
