Visitors have a while longer to view artist Sue Coccia’s work, above, along with the rest of the “Bear in Mind” visuals. The Los Altos History Museum extended the exhibition through April 14. The Los Altos History Museum has extended the “Bear in Mind: The Story of the California Grizzly” exhibition through April 14. “The show has been a big hit, and we are delighted more people will have a chance to see it,” said co-curator Jane Reed, History Museum board member.
Laura Bajuk, museum executive director, credited Reed and co-curator Lisa Robinson with the exhibition’s success. “They went above and beyond to make the exhibition even more educational and effective, adding panels on our local bear stories, objects from our collection such as an actual California grizzly toe from an Ohlone site and setting it against a lush color field,” Bajuk said. “And the bear cave is a kid magnet.” “Bear In Mind: The Story of the California Grizzly” is based on the 2003 Heyday Books publication by Susan Snyder and The Bancroft Library exhibition of the same name. Exhibit Envoy produced and toured the exhibition in concert with The Bancroft Library, UC Berkeley and Heyday Books, supported by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, with additional funds from Bank of the West. The Los Altos History Museum and J. Gilbert Smith House are located at 51 S. San Antonio Road. Admission is free. Hours are noon to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays.
