Friends of Deer Hollow Farm has scheduled annual Spring Farm Tours beginning 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Two other tours are slated for April 20 and May 18 at the farm, located in Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve.
The tours give visitors an opportunity to visit the livestock, including sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, rabbits and baby lambs in their pens; stroll the grounds; tour century-old farm buildings; view the garden; and learn about homestead farming as practiced 150 years ago.
The tours are one of two main fundraisers that Deer Hollow supporters host each year, according to Friends spokeswoman Elizabeth Montgomery.
“They have always been very popular and well attended by Los Altos families,” she said. “Visitors will be able to meet loveable Luna’s new calf, Roxie.”
The nonprofit Friends of Deer Hollow farm is dedicated to preserving the historical teaching farm and its 160-year-old homestead for the benefit of the community.
Approximately 100,000 visitors annually explore the educational site, which also hosts student field trips and summer camp for approximately 5,000 children each year.
Tours feature interactive activities for children and a visit to the Nature Center for hands-on learning.
Friends of Deer Hollow Farm’s merchandise booth will offer mementos for purchase.
Tours are $7, free for children under 1.
All proceeds support Deer Hollow Farm and its educational programs.
The last tour entrance begins at 12:30 p.m.
