The Los Altos/Mountain View Branch of the American Association of University Women has scheduled a Benefit Bridge Party to fund science camp scholarships for local eighth-grade girls 11:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Los Altos Youth Center, 1 N. San Antonio Road.

The fundraiser will provide scholarships for girls from local middle schools to attend the summer Tech Trek Science Camp at Stanford University.

Tech Trek, a math/science camp designed to develop interest, excitement and self-confidence in girls entering eighth grade in the fall, features hands-on activities in math, science and related fields.

The Tech Trek camps originated at Stanford under the sponsorship of the Palo Alto AAUW branch and have since spread to eight more university campuses under the sponsorship of AAUW-California.

Local bridge players will have an opportunity to gain Masters points at the event, which includes both American Contract Bridge League-sanctioned duplicate bridge and party bridge, as well as board games for the bridge-impaired.

Local residents and merchants have donated more than $2,000 in gift certificates for a silent auction, including produce from a local farmers’ market, bridge lessons and a stay at a Lake Tahoe condo.

Light refreshments will be served.

Admission is $25 per player. Players are encouraged to come with partners or as part of a foursome.

For more information on Tech Trek, visit aauw-techtrek.org.

To register for the event, call Carol Monahan at 967-1193.
