Ten-dollar bills wafted down Third Street this morning (March 6) after the third downtown Los Altos bank robbery in a month.

According to Los Altos Police, a white male adult entered Comerica Bank at 275 Third St. with a black handgun, demanding cash from a teller.

Police described the suspect as being in his 20s or 30s, standing between 5 feet, eight inches and 5 feet, 10 inches in height, and weighing approximately 170 pounds. Police added that the suspect was wearing a black hoodie and light-colored pants. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash in a grocery bag, he exited the building via Third Street, shedding dollar bills along the way.

Chris Redden, the Town Crier's Director of Ad Services, was driving past Comerica Bank at approximately 10:30 a.m. when she noticed money gusting, loose in the street.

"It looked like it was raining $10 bills," she said.

She gathered approximately $120 and returned it to the bank, which apparently had just gone into lockdown as employees waited for police to arrive. A bank employee unlocked a door, took the money and then locked herself back in the building, according to Redden.

Check back for more information as we continue to report the story, and read on for photos.

Ten dollar bills sit in the grass across from Comerica Bank on Third Street in Los Altos, left and top right, after a robber fled from the bank. A member of the Los Altos Police Department searches an adjacent property, bottom right, for the suspect. Unfortunately, it appears that the suspect was not found, top middle.

The Los Altos Police department released the following screen captures of the suspect.
