U.S. Army lieutenants with local ties return from deployment
U.S. Army 1st Lt. Phillip J. Lyman has returned to the United States following his deployment at a forward operating base in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Operation Enduring Freedom is the official title of anti-terrorism military operations involving U.S. troops and allied coalition partners in Afghanistan. Members from all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces have served outside the borders of the U.S. in support of the war against global terrorism. Lyman is a platoon leader assigned to the 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. The son of Phillip and Yuli Lyman of Los Altos, Lyman graduated from Los Altos High School in 2002 and earned a bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Cruz in 2009. U.S. Army 1st Lt. Eric D. Lain has returned to the United States after deployment overseas at a forward operating base to serve in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Active duty and reserve component members from all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces are assigned to Operation Enduring Freedom in support of the war against global terrorism outside U.S. borders. U.S. troops currently are serving in South, Southwest and Central Asia; the Arabian Peninsula; the Horn of Africa; islands in the Pacific; and Europe. Lain is a platoon leader with the 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska. He has served in the military for three years. He is the son of Ronald and Vonda Lain of San Antonio. His wife, Jessica, is the daughter of Robert Dumais of Mountain View and Suzy Dumais of Londonderry, N.H. Lain earned a bachelor’s degree in 2009 from the State University of New York at Albany.
