Enough already with charter school letters

I did not know that public schools spent school money on fliers mailed to the public. But that’s what I got in today’s mail, using first-class postage.

And what are Bullis Charter School officials saying or advertising? They are letting us know how wonderful they are to “agree” to a split campus. They are splitting the elementary school and the junior high/middle school. And they are telling us how magnanimous they are and that other schools don’t have to do this.

So what are Santa Rita, Almond, etc., and Blach and Egan? Are these not split campuses?

I live in Mountain View, and my now-adult sons went to Covington, Egan and Los Altos High. They had a wonderful education from our local districts. So I don’t have a vested interest in this ridiculously long legal fight between the Los Altos School District and Bullis Charter School. But I am sick of it.

The charter school is not a public school but a quasi-private school. Its families have to pay thousands of dollars extra to send their children there.

They seem to have amazingly deep pockets to spend on legal fees. Do other “charter” schools behave like this? I doubt it. Enough already!

I so agree. Please stop spending money on focus groups, PR luncheons, full-page ads, and flyers to try to tell us how misunderstood you are.
2"BCS "Compromise" Means..."
at Friday, 08 March 2013 11:42by Joan J. Strong
Normal people define "compromise" as an act wherein one party get something extra in exchange for giving something up.

The way BCS defines "compromise" is that they demand extra facilities beyond what is required by Prop 39 and in exchange they give up absolutely nothing. They don't drop their lawsuits--as a matter of fact, they promise to sue over the offer THEY THEMSELVES REQUESTED--and continue their war on our schools and our community (by, for instance, targeting me, Joan J. Strong, in a legal filing).

Normal people would have titled the BCS flyer and ads,"NEW DEMANDS". They cynically titled it, "COMPROMISE".

The BCS leadership believes that they can put absolutely anything on an ad or a flyer and we will believe it. They think we are idiots. They thought they could fool us into voting against Measure E, and we didn't. They thought they could fool us into voting for their puppet candidate for LASD board, and we didn't.

Let's prove them wrong again.

TOWN MERCHANTS NEED BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE
I am happy to see more varity in the businesses in the Town with fewer nail salons and more clothing boutiques. There still needs to be more sustainable restaurants, because the turnover of restaurants is prominent. I am hoping that the clothing boutiques will compete with better customer service and store policies. For example, I had a very bad experience trying to return a defective top to Crimson Mim. I did not notice that the garment was twisted with seams that were not straight, since the cold weather did not allow me to wear the top. The tags are still on the top, and I have a receipt. When I attempted to get a store credit, I was denied that request because it was later than the store's return policy. Merchants need to stand behind the quality of their merchandise.
