The Mountain View High girls soccer team took more than four times as many shots on goal as Santa Teresa, yet that wasn’t enough to advance to the Central Coast Section Division I final.
“It was heartbreaking,” said coach Ivan Bandov, whose fifth-seeded Spartans played the top-seeded Saints to a 1-all tie through regulation and overtime, then lost 4-3 on penalty kicks.
Mountain View outshot Santa Teresa 21-5 in the semifinal match at Valley Christian.
“Were all frustrated and disappointed with how (the Feb. 27) game ended,” Bandov said. “The girls were great tonight, especially in the second half when we created numerous chances.”
