Bank of the West robbed again

For the second time in less than three weeks, Bank of the West at 176 Main St. was the site of a robbery.

According to Los Altos Police, an African-American male in his mid-30s – standing 6 feet, 2 inches and weighing approximately 180 pounds – entered the bank at approximately 9:45 a.m. Friday, walked up to a teller and demanded cash.

Police said the suspect, wearing a black sweatshirt with a hoodie pulled over his head and blue denim jeans, entered the bank with a dark-colored duffle bag. Although the suspect did not brandish a weapon during the incident, he did appear to “simulate” having a concealed firearm in his possession at the time, according to police.

The suspect left the bank with approximately $17,000 in cash, police noted, and was last seen exiting the bank’s rear entry into Plaza Central, heading toward San Antonio Road.

The incident comes on the heels of a Feb. 11 robbery at the bank, in which an adult white male approached a bank teller, displayed a weapon and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Man robbed at home

An unknown suspect robbed a Havenhurst Avenue resident at knifepoint in the resident’s home driveway Feb. 27.

According to police, the suspect approached the victim from behind after the victim parked his vehicle in his driveway. Police described the suspect as an adult white male in his mid-30s, standing 6 feet, 2 inches and weighing approximately 240 pounds.

The suspect, reportedly wearing a stocking cap and a dark-colored pea coat, brandished a knife, robbing the victim of his satchel, which contained three iPods, a checkbook and a wallet. The suspect then fled the scene on foot, heading eastbound on Havenhurst.

Police unsuccessfully searched the area for the suspect with a K9 unit.

Drunk in public arrest

Police arrested a Nevada man at Rancho Shopping Center March 3 for being drunk in public. According to police, the man initially flagged down the reporting party, asking for medical assistance after consuming too much alcohol. When medical and police responders arrived, however, he tried to flee the scene by foot, traveling approximately 15 feet before being apprehended and arrested just short of a nearby Girl Scout cookies display table.
