The Los Altos Hills Club, a community organization for women who reside in the town, celebrated its 55th anniversary Feb. 8 with a party at Fremont Hills Country Club. Founded in 1958, the club provides a way to meet neighbors, promote social contacts and develop friendships.
Members meet monthly for lunch to enjoy each other’s company and to listen to guest speakers discuss topics related to culture, health and hobbies. Recent presentations included “Antiques and Collectibles,” “Having a Healthy Body,” “Garden Water Management” and an appearance by The Main Street Singers. According to its bylaws, the club rejects fundraisers and religious and political influences. Charlene Geers, a six-year club member currently serving as secretary, said she was pleased to discover the club. “What a wonderful group of nice people,” she said. “I enjoy the conversation, the programs and the food.” Different groups within the organization are always open to new members, including the Bridge group, the Book group, the Theater group, the Walking group and the Thursday Group. Nancy Traficanti, the club’s historian, said she enjoys meeting new people and making connections. “I love the communications with other members,” she said. “And you can belong and don’t have to do anything.” Nancy Murie said she looks to the club for camaraderie. “There is someone you can turn to for help when you need it – a group of women you can call on when you have a problem,” Murie noted. Membership, limited to 150 members, is open to women with a Los Altos Hills mailing address. Proposed members are approved by the club’s executive board and must attend two luncheons before acceptance. For more information, contact Traficanti at
