The Los Altos Library and Los Altos Voices for Peace have scheduled U.S. Army Capt. Paul Chappell to discuss “Why World Peace Is Possible and How We Can Achieve It” 7 p.m. today in the Program Room of the main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.

As part of the annual Silicon Valley Reads 2013 program, Chappell, an Iraq War veteran, West Point graduate and peace activist, will share how he learned at West Point and in the army that world peace is achievable.

Chappell, peace leadership director at the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, graduated from West Point in 2002, was deployed to Baghdad in 2006 and left active duty in 2009.

Chappell has appeared on Oprah Radio, Book TV, NPR, Pacifica Radio, Voice of America Radio and “The Tavis Smiley Show.”

Admission is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, so plan to arrive early.
