Three Los Altos merchants are joining forces in early March for a charitable cause.

Bumble, Armadillo Willy’s and Baskin-Robbins will donate a portion of their sales March 7 to the fifth annual Dine Out for Packard fundraiser, benefiting Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford.

The event – also supported by Palo Alto and Menlo Park merchants – has raised nearly $60,000 since its inception. Approximately 60 restaurants within the three cities are participating in the 2013 fundraiser.

All funds raised directly benefit children and expectant mothers at the hospital. Proceeds support the Lucile Packard Children’s Fund, which assists in funding health care at the hospital for local families with insufficient health insurance coverage.

The fund also bolsters scientific research at the hospital and helps underwrite family and community programs that are not covered by medical insurance.

“Dine Out for Packard has become a wonderful way for restaurants and individuals in the area to make a big difference in the lives of sick kids and expectant moms,” said Mallory Oliphant, the hospital’s community relations officer. “Support allows Packard Children’s Hospital to treat any local child who needs our specialized care, regardless of his or her financial means. It also funds innovative research and important programs, like the Teen Health Van, that bring our care into underserved communities across the Bay Area.”

This year, Bumble – located at 145 First St. – plans to donate 20 percent of its dinner sales to support the hospital’s patients and families. In addition, Baskin-Robbins at 264 State St. and Armadillo Willy’s at 1031 N. San Antonio Road will each donate 15 percent of evening sales to the hospital.

“We support Packard Children’s Hospital wholeheartedly,” said Bumble proprietor Mary Heffernan. “Not only was I was born at the hospital, but we’ve had wonderful experiences with our four daughters’ births, too. It’s great to have such a world-class children’s hospital here in our backyard.”
