West Bay Opera is scheduled to perform “Lucia di Lammermoor” – in Italian with English titles – 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto.

A new production of Gaetano Donizetti’s classic, the story is based on a novel by Sir Walter Scott.

To secure the favor of the king and the future of the Ashton clan, Lucia is forced to marry Arturo, a man she doesn’t love. Lucia has secretly pledged herself to Edgardo, a mortal enemy of the Ashtons.

The cast includes Rochelle Bard (as Lucia), Vincent Chambers (Edgardo) and Krassen Karagiosov (Enrico). Michel Singher conducts and David Ostwald directs.
