The Pear Avenue Theatre is slated to present the world premiere of “The Apple Never Falls” – Paul Braverman’s latest saga of Frankie Payne, East Boston’s lone female detective – Friday through March 19 in Mountain View.

Two years ago, Pear patrons met Frankie Payne in Braverman’s “No Good Deed,” inspired in part by film noir. Set in 1962, that play introduced the hard-smoking, hard-drinking and crime-savvy private detective, who was dealing with the notorious Winter Hill Gang and corruption in Boston’s police force. “Apple” is set two years later, when Frankie attempts to trap a vicious killer during the wave of Boston Strangler attacks.

Directed by veteran Pear director Michael Champlin, the production features Diane Tasca – Pear’s artistic director – reprising her role as the intrepid detective.

Performances are scheduled 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Thursday’s show is a preview and Friday is opening night. The theater is located at 1220 Pear Ave.

For tickets ($10-$30) and more information, call 254-1148 or visit www.thepear.org.
