Police investigating LA bank robbery Los Altos Police detectives are investigating a Feb. 11 bank robbery at the Bank of the West building at 176 Main St. According to detective Abe Velasco, a male suspect entered the rear entrance of the building at approximately 4 p.m., wearing all black clothing, gloves and a ski mask.
The suspect, described by Velasco as an adult white male with a medium build, then approached a bank teller, demanding cash. At some point during the exchange, the suspect displayed a firearm to the teller as well, Velasco added. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect exited the same rear access point of the building. Velasco said detectives are following up on leads and that an investigation is ongoing. Dog bite Feb. 14, 11:00 a.m., 800 block of Laverne Way: A dog-bite victim suffering from injuries that included bleeding on the thigh and bicep contacted police to report the incident. Police later located the dog owner and the animal was placed under quarantine. Residential burglary Feb. 13, 4:31 p.m., 100 block of North Avalon Drive: An unknown suspect entered the residence through an unlocked rear door, rummaged through several areas of the home and stole a tablet computer and jewelry. Feb. 14, 2:43 p.m., 1200 block of Eureka Avenue: An unknown suspect appeared to have kicked in the front door and stolen jewelry from the home. Identity theft Feb. 14, 6:53 a.m., 4400 block of El Camino Real: A resident contacted police after receiving a letter from the Internal Revenue Service that stated she had unclaimed wages from a position she never had. – Diego Abeloos MVHS ‘prank’ ends in arrest Police responded to Mountain View High School on the morning of Feb. 14 when multiple callers reported a person dressed in camouflage and wearing a gas mask on campus. A student, 18-year-old Christopher Egerton of Mountain View, admitted that he wore the attire as a prank, according to police. No weapons were involved, and police reported that no students or staff members were in jeopardy at any point. Mountain View Police Sgt. Sean Thompson reported that after receiving calls, all of the department’s patrol units, traffic units and detectives responded to the school, and Los Altos police provided assistance as well. They collectively set up a perimeter around the school and filled the surrounding neighborhood, preparing for a search. Thompson said patrol officers recalled contacting a young man in similar attire several months ago and were able to identify Egerton as a student at the high school. School resource officers contacted him in class and he “admitted to the prank,” Thompson said. The student was “admonished for his actions” and arrested under California Penal Code 415.5, under which causing a disturbance on school grounds can be a misdemeanor offense. Disturbance Feb. 12, 1:17 p.m., Hillview Avenue: Police mediated a disturbance that started when someone began yelling at Hillview Community Center staff over park-use regulations.
