Los Altos Forward, a nonprofit organization that promotes downtown vibrancy, invites local residents to a “Community Conversation” 5:30-7:30 p.m. Feb. 20 at 242 State St.

Participants will review “Community Visioning and Planning Processes: Lesson from San Bruno,” a document that details how San Bruno successfully engaged its community in a downtown visioning and planning process that resulted in sustainable economic growth.

Aaron Aknin, Palo Alto assistant director of planning and community environment and former San Bruno community development director, will discuss the process.

Admission is free.

To RSVP, visit www.eventbrite.com/event/5455000052.

Los Altos could use some better restaurant selection - more family friendly places like Rick's Cafe as well as more hip places. Fewer sleepy, quiet restaurants. And the shops that are there need to stay open later (if you open, they will come). Also, we need to do better outreach to bring in non-Los Altos residents to our shops. My suggestion would be to target in-demand retailers that lack a presence in the mid-peninsula area. Too bad I can't attend tomorrow - it's my birthday so I have other plans. :-)
